At age 17, I found my mom dead in her bedroom in our home. She died from arsenic poisoning after drinking contaminated well water for 40 years.
When I was 12, Mom got the flu, but she didn’t get better. The doctor said it was something called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and she would never get better. The doctor prescribed antidepressants to help her get through each day. There were no other interventions offered; no diet modification, no exercise program, no support groups, and no literature on how to cope with this disease. Just a prescription bottle of pills and a one-way ticket to a life of misery.
In my opinion, that doctor missed the mark on helping her patient find meaning in life again by ignoring the environmental trigger factor in her chronic illness: arsenic-contaminated well water due to industrial waste runoff in our small town watershed located uphill from heavy industry.
billy the exterminator’s mother died
In the history of TV, there are some moments you never forget. The first time you see a particular show, the point where you start to love it and when it’s taken away from you. My mother died when I was 17 years old and she was the one that got me hooked on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. It wasn’t so much her death as much as the aftermath.
Strangely, Kimmy Schmidt was what kept me sane after my mom passed away. When I was sad or angry, this show would cheer me up and make me laugh again. You see my mother used to work in pest control with her brother Billy. He had a recurring role in this series as the exterminator named ‘Unbreakable Billy’ who is always cracking jokes about cockroaches, rats, and other pests that he has to deal with every day at his job.
After my mother died, I started watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt more often than before because she introduced it to me once upon a time and now I watched it even more often so I wouldn’t think about anything else but laughing at their antics instead of being reminded of the tragic events of that day again and again…

so infested with cockroaches that they had become Joanne’s pets. Joanne’s home
was also home to mice and rats. The rodents had eaten the woman’s furniture and
had begun to gnaw on her clothing and books.
BTE Company Employees
Billy had been working with a team of employees that had been
hired to work alongside the other exterminators who worked for Billy’s company.
